Christmas Lights – Do They Get You Switched On?

As the festive season approaches Canterbury, along with Tunbridge Wells and other towns and villages throughout Kent will be switching on their Christmas lights and spreading festive cheer.

For many this sparks sudden panic and realisation that the Christmas countdown is on and that we need to get organised. For children, the excitement and anticipation of Christmas commences, with the green light given to start writing their wish list before Advent has even begun! So why all the fuss?

For many of us, the Christmas light switch-on begins too early, throwing us into an unnecessary dash to be organised before December has even arrived. However, there is no doubt that if timed right, the local Christmas light switch-on and their associated festivities remain a firm part of an annual tradition for many, bringing families, friends and communities together. Not only that, we are drawn to locations that feel festive when we do our Christmas shopping and for local businesses this encourages people to visit and to spend.

Is the Christmas light switch-on too early? It’s never too early for Christmas is it?
