Let the Fireworks Begin!
So, it all began back on 5th November 1605 when 13 young men planned to blow up the Houses of Parliament. Among them was mercenary Guy Fawkes, Britain's most notorious traitor – and on the very night that the plot was foiled, bonfires were set alight to celebrate the safety of the king.
Fast forward to 2018, and what was originally called Guy Fawkes Night is now fondly named Bonfire Night and/or Fireworks Night when, nationally and locally, we commemorate the capture of Guy Fawkes with bonfires and fireworks, and by burning an effigy of Guy – or in a more popular move, most loved or loathed personalities, celebrities, politicians, world leaders…
If you’re looking for a spectacular event to celebrate this year, you won’t get bigger and better than Royal Tunbridge Wells Round Table’s Fireworks, sponsored by Buss Murton, which take place in Dunorlan Park on Saturday 3rd November. Come along and sample some local food and drink, take in the wonderful surroundings of the park and maybe go on a ride or two – not to mention watch the sky light up!
Gates open at 5.30pm and the fireworks spectacular sparks into action at 7pm. Tickets on the day cost £8 for adults and £5 for children (adults £6 and children £4 in advance).
INDEX is once again pleased to be Media Partner for the event, the RTWRT’s biggest annual fundraiser with all proceeds going to local charities. Last year over £30,000 was given away to support initiatives and projects including a winter shelter programme, a food bank, children’s mental health and community outreach programmes.
