The Matters That Matter To West Kent Businesses

Brexit, economic uncertainty and skills shortages top the agenda for West Kent businesses according to research by Kent-based Warners Solicitors, at Sevenoaks Business Show.

Encouragingly, 95% of businesses asked would recommend Kent as a place to operate a business.

When it comes to the current challenges facing Kent businesses, 72% of respondents pinpointed Brexit and ongoing economic uncertainty as the biggest issues they are facing. Recruiting and retaining employees with the right skills also emerged as an issue, with 85% claiming they find it either somewhat or very challenging.

The research also explored businesses’ attitudes to operating specifically in Sevenoaks, with organisations praising the town’s geographical positioning with easy access to London and the rest of Kent (72%) and thriving business community and Chamber of Commerce (52%) as key advantages to doing business in Sevenoaks.

However, many also highlighted that parking and traffic issues (55%) and recruiting and retaining the right talent (38%) presented the biggest challenges to operating in Sevenoaks.

Commenting on the research findings, Kirsty Humphrey, marketing manager at Warners Solicitors, says: “As a Kent-based organisation, with offices in Tonbridge and Sevenoaks, we know first hand what a vibrant and supportive place it is to operate a business. It is great to see this view echoed by other West Kent organisations from across a range of industries.

“We also recognise that many organisations are experiencing disruption in the face of economic uncertainty and skills shortages. We regularly work with clients in Kent and beyond, offering them innovative and expert legal solutions to navigate their way through challenging times.

“We’re dedicated to continuing to support local businesses, helping the West Kent community to grow and thrive.”
