Barham Village Store: From Barham To Downing Street

Produced in Kent member, Barham Village Stores has recently been named as a finalist in the Rural Business Group’s South East Regional Awards – but just how did Michael Pearson of Barham Village Stores end up on the steps of Number 10 Downing Street?

“The Rural Business Group was invited to take a delegation to attend a Roundtable discussion at Number 10. The delegation was chosen to represent successful rural businesses from various parts of the UK and Barham Village Store is proud to be seen as one of them. There were only 12 delegates which provided ample opportunity to fully discuss the issues raised,” explains Michael, who raised the issue of the underfunded post office network at the Roundtable discussion, which means many villages like Barham are effectively subsidising their local post office.
