Canterbury Food Bank Set For Winter Challenges

Demand for services delivered by Canterbury Food Bank has continued to show an increase in families in need across the district.

The charity has helped many hundreds of families cope with financially challenging times, through offering a range of parcels for those in need.

Trustee, Peter Taylor-Gooby said: “The charity has continued to expand during the past year, although we’d much rather that there wasn’t a need for our services… We have a new distribution centre in Herne Bay at The Salvation Army and also in Whitstable at the Umbrella Centre. We’ve established our Soup Cellar for street homeless people at the Baptist Church in Whitstable.”

He added that none of this would be possible without the commitment of volunteers, now numbering a total of more than 100, as well as generous support from individuals, organisations and small businesses who donate food and other items.
