Restaurant Review: Bewl Water Boat House Bistro, Lamberhurst
After entering the modern, airy and stylish Bewl Water Boat House Bistro, the first thing that will strike you is the stunning views over the reservoir. With three walls built of mainly glass, wherever you are seated you are sure to be able to enjoy the view.
Open on a Saturday and Sunday, we visited on the former and were surprised to see a roast on the menu – as their Sunday roasts have proved to be so popular they are even being called for on a Saturday. And speaking of success, the Boat House Bistro have just become the number one restaurant in Lamberhurst on TripAdvisor, which is no surprise as the menu changes weekly and they use the finest locally-sourced ingredients. On our visit I chose to start with the deliciously light green vegetable and dolcelatte soup, my partner opting for the bread basket offering fresh warm bread rolls.
Given the setting I decided on the fish dish – pan fried sea bass fillet with lemon and chive butter sauce, crushed new potatoes and seasonal vegetables – while my partner went for the juicy 8oz sirloin steak with big chips, baby leaf salad and garlic and herb butter. For dessert we shared the dark chocolate brownie delice with cherry gel and honeycomb ice cream, which also came with a cinnamon tortilla.
Offering a great deal of two courses for £19 or three for £25, there is every reason to visit – plus there is also a children’s menu at two courses for £7.95.
With Christmas coming, the Boat House Bistro is ideal for get-togethers with family and friends. Or if you are looking for a gift for someone – or yourself – why not buy some private cookery lessons with head chef Andre so you can try making some delicious dishes at home? And once Christmas is over the bistro is also great for special occasion parties all year round.
