Restaurant Review: Vauxhaull Inn, Tonbridge

There are exciting times ahead for the Vauxhall Inn in Tonbridge under new manager Clive, as having just taken over at the helm he is keen to take on board what locals want from their pub and incorporate new events and activities for them all to enjoy.

I visited the pub on a hot Saturday lunchtime and found refuge in the cool interior, first starting with a drink in the bar area and then moving on to the relaxing restaurant, all while enjoying the warmest of welcomes from all the staff.

With Scott as our waiter, we knew should we need anything he would be right there, which is backed up by the excellent TripAdvisor reviews and the first name terms he was on with other diners.

The great customer service is also reflected in the way the Vauxhall Inn will go the extra mile when catering for events, such as helping with decorations and making the occasion as special as possible.

Their fantastic drinks menu includes a collection of fine wines, cask ales, cocktails and soft drinks, alongside their British gin parlour.

With a variety of dishes to suit all tastes on the menu, from burgers and steaks to fish and pasta, I opted for the chicken and mushroom pie in hot water crust pastry with mash and veg which came beautifully presented with a little jug of gravy, while my partner went for the Hunter’s chicken with triple-cooked chips and salad. Both were generously sized portions and very reasonably priced.

For dessert I chose the raspberry sorbet with fresh fruit and black cherry compote, which was deliciously refreshing on a summer’s day, while my partner chose the classic chocolate fudge cake with ice cream.

As the seasons change so does the menu at the Vauxhall Inn, so keep your eyes open for some new, mouth-watering dishes to come this autumn.
