TJs head coach calls on community to show their support this season

After missing out on promotion last season by a whisker Tonbridge Juddians’ head coach Peter Dankert is calling on local support to help the club gain the coveted promotion this season.

TJs play in National League 2 South, the fourth tier of English Rugby, putting the club in the top 55 clubs in the whole country. They ended up in third place last season and are aiming to get into the top two this year to secure promotion to National 1.

Peter Dankert said: “We are really well-placed to put in another sustained challenge for promotion this season, with a number of new exciting signings on top of our already excellent squad. But what would make a real difference is the infamous ‘16th man’, a large home crowd to roar the team on while enjoying some top-quality rugby.”

Peter is celebrating a milestone himself by heading into his 10th season in charge at the club, a period that has seen unprecedented success.

He continued: “For TJs it is all about progressing, building a strong foundation and that starts with the local community. We have a fantastic mini and junior section a brilliant academy, great sponsors and a raft of superb senior players. We really want the people of Tonbridge and West Kent to know that they have a top-quality sports team playing on their doorsteps and to come down and see what we get up to - everyone will be assured a very warm welcome.”

Over the past weeks TJs has announced a raft of new players who have joined the club, including England U20 Saracens Academy graduate Jack Nay, England Counties U20shooker Tom Petty and fellow England Counties and Harlequins academy graduate Noah Ferdinand, who brings some rapid speed on the wing.

This season also heralds a new 1st XV shirt sponsor in the form of Ridge Crest Cleaning.

• TJs start the season at home on Saturday 7th September when Leicester Lions visit The Slade for the first time. Details of all this season’s matches are available at tjrfc.co.uk
